Acacia
What it is
The acacia is a thorny tree of dry places, with a flat crown and a twisted trunk. It grows in the desert and in the Jordan valley, and its wood is very hard.
Where it is in the Bible
God told Moses, “Have the people make an Ark of acacia wood” (Exodus 25:10). The frames of the Tabernacle were also acacia wood (Exodus 26:15). Isaiah lists the acacia among the trees God will plant in the desert (Isaiah 41:19).
““Have the people make an Ark of acacia wood—a sacred chest 45 inches long, 27 inches wide, and 27 inches high.”Exodus 25:10 NLT
““For the framework of the Tabernacle, construct frames of acacia wood.”Exodus 26:15 NLT
“I will plant trees in the barren desert— cedar, acacia, myrtle, olive, cypress, fir, and pine.”Isaiah 41:19 NLT
How people used it
Acacia wood is heavy, dense and does not rot, which is why it suited a tent that had to be carried through the desert. It was also used for tables and poles. The tree gave shade and some of its gum was used for medicine and glue.
What it meant in the story
The Ark and the Tabernacle were built from the wood of the wilderness. God asked the people for what they had in their hands, and a tough desert tree became the home of his presence.
In the game
Not a building, but a tree of the land. An acacia is painted for your village. Its wood is for the Ark and the Tabernacle, in a later age.
