Oak

What it is

The oak is a broad, strong tree with a thick trunk and a wide crown. Oaks grew in groves on the hills of the land and lived for centuries.

Where it is in the Bible

When Abram came to Shechem, he camped beside the oak of Moreh (Genesis 12:6). The Lord appeared to Abraham near the oak grove of Mamre (Genesis 18:1). Jacob buried the idols of his household under the great tree near Shechem (Genesis 35:4).

“Abram traveled through the land as far as Shechem. There he set up camp beside the oak of Moreh. At that time, the area was inhabited by Canaanites.”Genesis 12:6 NLT
“The Lord appeared again to Abraham near the oak grove belonging to Mamre. One day Abraham was sitting at the entrance to his tent during the hottest part of the day.”Genesis 18:1 NLT
“So they gave Jacob all their pagan idols and earrings, and he buried them under the great tree near Shechem.”Genesis 35:4 NLT

How people used it

Oak wood made tools, doors, ship oars and fires. The big tree marked a meeting place: people camped, prayed, made agreements and buried the dead in its shade. Sometimes a stone was set under it as a memorial.

What it meant in the story

Old oaks stood where important things happened. Abraham worshiped under one, and Jacob turned his household back to God under another. The tree stayed while the people came and went, a quiet witness.

In the game

Not a building, but a tree of the land. An oak is painted for your village.
