The ram in the thicket

Ram

What it is

A ram is a full-grown male sheep, strong, with big curved horns.

Where it is in the Bible

On the mountain, Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket (Genesis 22:13). At Jericho, seven priests carried ram’s horns before the Ark (Joshua 6:4). Among the gifts for the Tabernacle were tanned ram skins (Exodus 25:5).

“Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.”Genesis 22:13 NLT
“Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns.”Joshua 6:4 NLT
“tanned ram skins and fine goatskin leather; acacia wood;”Exodus 25:5 NLT

How people used it

The horn was hollowed out into a trumpet, the shofar, to call the people, to send a signal or to mark a feast. Ram skins were tanned and dyed. Rams were also strong leaders of the flock.

What it meant in the story

God provided the ram so that Abraham’s son would not be harmed, and Abraham kept that place in his memory. At Jericho, the sound of the ram’s horn went before God’s people as they marched.

In the game

The game uses the shofar, a ram’s horn, to call the people.
