The digger of wells
Isaac
Coming in a later age
Isaac was the son of the promise. In Gerar he dug again the wells of his father and found room for his house in the land.
The story
The Philistines had filled in Abraham’s wells. Isaac reopened them and gave them the names his father had given them. When the herdsmen argued over the water, he moved on and dug again.
At the well with no dispute he said that the Lord had made room for them to prosper in the land.
“He reopened the wells his father had dug, which the Philistines had filled in after Abraham’s death. Isaac also restored the names Abraham had given them.”Genesis 26:18 NLT
“Abandoning that one, Isaac moved on and dug another well. This time there was no dispute over it, so Isaac named the place Rehoboth (which means “open space”), for he said, “At last the Lord has created enough space for us to prosper in this land.””Genesis 26:22 NLT
“It was by faith that Isaac promised blessings for the future to his sons, Jacob and Esau.”Hebrews 11:20 NLT
In the game
Isaac comes in a later age. His wells are already part of the game: the first enemy village, the Philistines of Gerar, is the story of the stopped-up wells.
