The Canaanites were the people of the land in the days of the patriarchs, descendants of Canaan, the grandson of Noah.
The story
When Abram arrived at Shechem, by the oak of Moreh, the Canaanites lived in the land.
Later the tribes of Joseph said the Canaanites of the lowlands had iron chariots.
